Trivia Time: NBA Draft Edition

Posted: June 20, 2011 by Keith Stone in basketball, NBA, NBA Draft, trivia

The NBA Draft is one of my favorite events every year. The childhood dreams coming true. The pageantry. The awkward handshakes. Well, at least it’s exciting for the first 20 minutes until I don’t know any of the players that are left. The first NBA Draft was held in 1947. It was so long ago that it wasn’t even called the NBA yet, it was the BAA, and Kobe Bryant was still 60 years away from raping chicks. Such legends such as Bulbs Ehlers, Chink Crossin, and Elmer Gainer were selected in that draft. That brings us to our Question of the Week. It’s a tough one. If you get it right, you get a handshake from Commissioner Stern. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Who was the first ever NBA draft pick? (and a hint: it is not Jason Kidd)

Trivia Time: Dirk Edition

Posted: June 14, 2011 by Keith Stone in Dirk Nowitzki, trivia

So Dirk Nowitzki is having a good week. NBA Title. Finals MVP. Drinking expensive champagne. It’s a little known fact that he wasn’t originally drafted by the Mavericks but part of a shrewd trade made by Don Nelson, who had fallen in love with Dirk. Of course he fell in love with Dirk! Munich is so romantic. That brings us to our Question of the Week. If you get it right, Mark Cuban will give you a billion dollars. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Which team originally drafted Dirk Nowitzki and who was he traded for? (and a hint: it is not the Berlin Globetrotters and Detlef Schrempf)

If you get it right, you get five minutes in the penalty box with Dani. The answser is after the jump.

When was the current version of the Stanley Cup first awarded? (and a hint: it is not 1940)

Trivia Time: Happy Birthday Edition

Posted: May 17, 2011 by Keith Stone in Happy Birthday, trivia

On May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe sang a very special birthday song for JFK’s 45th. It’s definitely a good week to celebrate the birth of a smooth individual. Monroe was a mess and running so behind schedule that Peter Lawford introduced her as “the late Marilyn Monroe.” It was her last public appearance before her death three months later. Smooth move Exlax. That brings us to our question. If you get it right, the ghost of Joe DiMaggio will haunt you forever. The answer is after the jump.

Where did Marilyn Monroe sing Happy Birthday to President Kennedy? (and a hint: it’s more famous than the Nassau Moseleum)

Trivia Time: Mother’s Day Edition

Posted: May 10, 2011 by Keith Stone in Mother's Day, trivia

Mama Stone had a great weekend. Breakfast in bed. Flowers. Poems. That’s just the way I treat my ladies. A woman named Anna Jarvis created Mother’s Day in 1908, but later became one of its biggest critics after it became highly commercialized by the greeting card companies. That leads us to our question. Get it right and I won’t kiss your mama. The answer is after the jump.

What year did Mother’s Day become an official national holiday in the United States? (and a hint: it’s after 1908)

Trivia Time: 5/2/11 Edition

Posted: May 3, 2011 by Keith Stone in basketball, NBA, NBA Playoffs, trivia

Isiah Thomas protege Zach Randolph and the 8th seeded Memphis Grizzlies shocked the NBA by upsetting the San Antonio Spurs 4-2 in their First Round matchup. Only three other 8-seeds have upset a 1-seed since the playoffs expanded to their current format in 1984, which brings us to our question. If you get it right, Z-Bo will take you to finest strip club in Memphis, Christie’s Cabaret. Answer is after the jump.

Which previous three 8th seeded teams have advanced to the Second Round of the NBA Playoffs? (and a hint: it is not the 1993 Indiana Pacers)

>

Perfect Strangers was a great TV show but never really had a huge following. I blame it on the fact that it changed time slots approximately 34 times in its eight-season run. We’ll always have the Dance of Joy, though. Perfect Strangers also had a wildly popular spin-off show, which brings us to today’s trivia question. The prize? Don’t be ri-dic-u-lous. The answer plus a bonus video is after the jump.

What is the name of Perfect Strangers’s spin-off show?

Answer: Family Matters

The Suite hasn’t been showing a lot of love to hockey but that’s about to change. Playoff hockey is awesome and I can’t wait for it to start next week. That leads us to our question. If you get it right, I’ll buy you a shot at Continental on 3rd Ave. Five shots for $5 hollllllllllla. Answer is after the jump.

Who was the last NHL player to play without a helmet? (and a hint: it was not Ron Duguay although it’s almost a crime to make him play with a helmet. Look at that flowing hair!)

Answer: Craig MacTavish—He retired in 1997. The NHL now requires all players to wear a helmet.
