Trivia Time: Infectious Disease Edition

Posted: November 9, 2011 by Keith Stone in medicine, trivia

I hope you remember to wash your hands. Diseases kill millions upon millions worldwide, especially in poorer regions of the globe. However thanks to higher standards of hygiene, better education, and vaccination campaigns, certain viruses are declining and some have, in fact, been wiped out from the face of the Earth. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and I’ll give you mono. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

What is the only infectious disease to affect humans that has completely eradicated? (and a hint: it is not Jungle Fever)

Trivia Time: College Football Edition

Posted: November 3, 2011 by Keith Stone in Bama, college football, LSU, trivia

#1 LSU and #2 Alabama are playing the college football game of the year this Saturday. These teams are bitter rivals and a spot in the National Championship Game is basically on the line. Did I mention that Alabama is coached by Nick Saban, who formerly coached LSU to a Title but is now loathed in Baton Rouge over the circumstances of his departure? I know how that feels. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and you get to sleep with your cousin. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

When was the last time the #1 and #2 ranked college football teams played each other in a non-Championship game and who were the teams? (and a hint: it was not Harvard and Yale)

The Texas Rangers are one win away from winning their first World Series. Or so I’ve been told. I can’t watch baseball for four hours when my team isn’t involved. The Rangers actually made their first World Series appearance last year after 50 years of futility, leaving only two franchises without a trip to the Fall Classic. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and Josh Hamilton will share some non-alcoholic champagne with you. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Which two teams have never been in the World Series? (and a hint: it is not the Mudville Nine and Bad News Bears)

Trivia Time: Hockey Edition

Posted: October 20, 2011 by Keith Stone in hockey, NHL, trivia

Hockey is back in full swing. King Henrik is shutting people out, bitches be getting knocked out, and the Ottawa Senators are in last place. Feels like it never left. This year everything is as wide open as ever. No team is a frontrunner and Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Steve Stamkos, and Corey Perry all share a place among the game’s elite. It wasn’t so back in the 80’s as Wayne Gretzky ran roughshod over the league and shattered records like Joan Rivers looking into a mirror. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right or it’s a game misconduct. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

How many consecutive MVP awards did Wayne Gretzky win?

Trivia Time: Baby Skull Edition

Posted: October 12, 2011 by Keith Stone in the kids, trivia

The skull is freaky before you start losing teeth, huh? It looks like some sort of shark-human. Apparently, your adult teeth just chill all over the place while they wait to pop out, like a houseguest who won’t leave. Luckily, it looks like whoever’s skull this is flossed regularly. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and win a toothbrush. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

How many total teeth do humans have? (and a hint: it’s not none)

Trivia Time: MLB Tiebreaker Edition

Posted: September 29, 2011 by Keith Stone in baseball, MLB, trivia

There’s nothing more exciting than a baseball tiebreaker. Well, maybe Game 7 of the World Series. There have been 13 tiebreakers all-time, most recently in 2009. In 1969, Major League Baseball modified its tiebreaking procedures to make the rules in both the American and National Leagues uniform. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and you win the pennant. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Prior to 1969, what was the difference between the AL and NL tiebreaker? (and a hint: it wasn’t that the NL winner got to lose to the Yankees in the World Series)

Trivia Time: MTA Edition

Posted: September 23, 2011 by Keith Stone in MTA, trivia

I was cast as an extra on the new TV show Pan Am (Sundays at 10 on ABC!) and had to go to a costume fitting at a studio in Brooklyn the other day. I ended up taking about eight trains on the way, but it gave me plenty of time to study the subway map, which may be one the most addicting things in the world. There’s so many stops! That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and the mariachis will play a song for you. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Which is the only subway line that does not go into Manhattan? (and a hint: it is not the K train, although there should be a K train, dammit)

Trivia Time: Michael J. Fox Edition

Posted: September 12, 2011 by Keith Stone in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Michael J. Fox, trivia

It was a big week for Michael J. Fox. First, Nike announced that they created his self-lacing sneakers from Back to the Future Part II, then he absolutely killed it as Larry’s nemesis on the season finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Fox really proved that he has a great sense of humor and he can still act, but I would not recommend taking a soda from him. Booting Larry from New York with the help of Mayor Bloomberg was a fitting end to, dare I say, a historic season. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and you can ride in the DeLorean. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

What is Michael J. Fox’s middle name? (and a hint: it is not Jay)

Trivia Time: Football Edition

Posted: September 6, 2011 by Keith Stone in football, NFL, trivia

On Thursday, the NFL kicks off its 92th season. Fresh off a lockout, the sport is as popular as ever and is America’s pastime. Last year, the Green Bay Packers won their 13th World Title, most in the league. However, they were not one of the NFL’s original teams. That brings us to our Question of the Week. Get it right and you won’t get sacked. The answer, as always, is after the jump.

Which two franchises remain from the NFL’s inaugural 1920 season? (and a hint: it is not the New Jersey Generals)
