Gotta Do Better Than That, Tony Bennett!

Posted: December 18, 2011 by Keith Stone in art, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett

He may be over 80, but it looks like Tony Bennett still has some moves with the ladies. After recording The Lady Is a Tramp with Lady Gaga for his new album, Tony took Gaga back to his place for a little art project. A nude painting, to be specific. So Tony has one of the hottest pop stars on the planet posing naked for him, and this is the best he can do? It looks like Donatella Versace and Sloth from The Goonies had a baby. You have to flatter a lady, Tony, even if she is a tramp. No way you’re getting Gaga with that. The entire project was part of a Gaga piece in Vanity Fair. Summer Song 2011: The Edge of Glory?

Posted: June 17, 2011 by Keith Stone in Lady Gaga, Summer Song 2011

Just when I thought I was out, Lady Gaga pulls me back in. I’ve been saying for a while that Gaga needed to keep it all simple. She finally did and The Edge of Glory is a seriously solid song, although it’s probably the reason why the black guy in the E Street Band had a stroke. It’s actually a song and not a piece of performance art. I kinda just want to drive around with the sun hitting my face, blasting this song and singing at the top of my lungs. And maybe it’s the fact that she barely wears anything and when she does it’s studded leather and her ass is hanging out, but Gaga gets it going for me. She also has a deceptively hot body. I support any chick that doesn’t like to wear clothes unless her name is Rosie O’Donnell.

This week at her concert in Guadalajara, Lady Gaga sang her new bilingual song Americano for the first time. The tune inlcudes references to “Jesus Cristo” and lyrics such as “Mis canciones son de la revolucion/Mi corazon late por mi generacion” o en ingles, “My songs are of the revolution/My heart beats for my generation.” Gaga says the song is about immigration law and gay marriage. Ladies and gentlemen, Lady Gaga is an idiot.

Lady Gaga is under fire from Catholic League President Bill Donohue, but not for the reasons you’d think. Gaga’s new single Judas has been hitting airwaves over the past week, in which she proclaims her love for the man who betrayed Jesus. She also dresses like Mary Magdelene in the video. Did I mention that Easter is this Sunday? It’s fair to think that the Church would be furious but Donohue took another approach. He called Gaga “irrelevant” and the song a ploy to distract fans from her lack of talent. I didn’t realize the Catholic League dished out verbal beatdowns but I love it. I haven’t seen anything like this since Jesus started flipping tables over in the temple. If Bill Donohue ever leaves the Catholic League, he has an open invitation to hang out in The Suite. I wonder what the Pope thought about the whole thing. I’m pretty sure he’s more of a Ke$ha fan.

>Lady Gaga is Steve Urkel

Lady Gaga arrived to the Grammys last night in an egg. My friends and I had no idea what was going on when they showed it. At first, I thought she was helping to carry the egg but then we realized she was in the egg. I don’t know how she came up with the idea or why she thanked Whitney Houston during her acceptance speech but that’s another story. I’m a little concerned about Gaga, though, and I want to look out for a fellow NYUer. I love the antics, the songs, the outfits, the videos. I watched the Telephone video like 12 times in a row. But she’s moving from crazy to weird and that’s a dangerous step.

I used to love Family Matters. Steve Urkel FTW. He would break stuff and snort and somehow outsmart the school bullies at the end of the day. And he always got turned down by Laura. Then, created Urkelbot. That was like Lady Gaga’s meat dress. Crazy, interesting, funny. It was an acceptable level of zaniness. Enter Stefan Urquelle. A cool Steve Urkel clone? It was funny but it was just too much. It was weird and the show lacked the same spirit it had in earlier years. And that’s where it went downhill. Within a few years, Family Matters was stuck on CBS and Carl was prostituting himself in Grant Park to fund a serious drug habit (I think, I had stopped watching the show by then.)

I believe last night was Lady Gaga’s Stefan Urquelle moment. The similarities are eerie. When she emerged from her egg, like Stefan from his transformation chamber, it was just weird. She’s taken everything to a whole different level. Lady Gaga is falling off the face of the Earth, and coincidentally the last episode of Family Matters saw Steve Urkel in space. Hopefully, Gaga slows down before she’s too far gone. Let’s not forget that Steve Urkel was a pretty good dancer too back in his day.
