ESPN isn’t the only entity that’s moved away from hard news in favor of ratings-driven celebrity worship, but since it’s what most guys watch, it sucks to see the mindless, speculative drivel it’s become. What makes the situation especially compelling is that ESPN pays to air most of the content that it then reports on. Deadspin did a great job rehashing the problems and how they came about. Check out the article here.

All the Nips That’s Fit To Print
Posted: March 8, 2012 by Keith Stone in mediaTags: bOObs, media, New York Times, yoga
I know that the print industry has been hit hard, but if this is any indication about where it’s going, newspapers may not be completely dead. The New York Times published the above picture in an article about yoga last week. Look at the chick on the top right. It’s a nipple! There was a nipple in the Times. How has nobody noticed this? Now I know I’m a trendsetter but I didn’t think the newspaper of record would be copying The Suite after only a year. I figured it’d take at least a year and a half. What’s next? A Dayyyyyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuuuum Girl on every page? You’d definitely have a lot more people reading the paper and being informed about current events. This is exactly what the country needs. I’d read Larry Flint’s Wall St. Journal.
So after the Giants humiliated the Dream Team on Sunday and Mike Vick cried in front of everybody about getting hit too much, Wayne Simmonds called Sean Avery a fag in Monday night’s exhibition game between the Flyers and Rangers. I’m sure in Philadelphia, people use the word “fag” in everyday conversation but we don’t tolerate it here in New York. Like I’ve said before, The Suite is very gay-friendly.
Then yesterday, two football writers from the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News came to blows in the media room at the Eagles training facility. Apparently, both papers are owned by the same company, which is offering buyouts, so the pressure is high. When one of the writers wrote on Tuesday that Vick would play, the other one tweeted and criticized him for doing it so early in the week. The tweets went back and forth and eventually culminated in punches being thrown yesterday. Where’s the brotherly love? Oh, people of Philadelphia, you make me laugh so much. Too bad we can’t see a throwdown bewteen Mike Lupica and Peter Vescey.
I was flipping channels last night and I started watching the news on Channel 9, or My9 as the cool kids call it. Let me tell you something about their 10 o’clock news broadcast. It’s hilarious and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to laugh at the news even when it doesn’t involve Sarah Palin. I guess My9 figured that people like their news fast so they start the show with a segment called Nine at 10. They basically read all the big news stories as quickly as they can. It sounds something like this:
“PresidentObamametwithHousedemocratstodaytodiscussreducingtaxesontherich.
Aspokesmansaidtheymadeprogressandtheyplantomeetagaintomorrow.Harry?”
“LocalresidentsarestillreelingoverHurricaneIrene.Therearestill10,000homeswithoutpoweronLongIsland.
GovernorCuomohopestogetallhomesbackbyFriday.”
My9 should really just go all out. Their logo already looks like a bomb. Get the Micro Machines guy to do the news. He could do it in five minutes and we would all get more reruns of The King of Queens.
